sometimes you just have to laugh...

I got permission from Jenn to share this story before posting, but I thought it was a great reminder that though we strive for excellence, perfection is not the standard we are trying to attain.

I love having Jenn lead worship because of the energy she brings to stage and the passion that you can see in her on stage. The closing song in this weekend's service was My Glorious, kind of an old school song that we all know pretty well, and the band had a really nice arrangement and everything was going smoothly in rehearsal and cue to cue. But somewhere in there I think Jenn had a brain freeze, because at the end of the song she left out some lyrics which caused the band to get completely lost which led to the song trailing off and an awkward silence that was broken by Jenn laughing at herself and admitting to the audience: "I'm sorry, I totally messed up the words."

It's easy to get flustered in those moments and beat ourselves up over mistakes like that, but what I loved what that she didn't let it phase her. I can't tell you enough the importance of being able to laugh at yourself in instances like that--it takes off so much pressure and it puts everyone else at ease too.

So remember, it's OK to make mistakes. If you expect that you will sometimes it makes it easier when they happen, and even better when you don't! But also remember that generally people will overlook those things if you can let go of it yourself.

Here is a successful take of My Glorious!
